Different Cable Interfaces
Use this guide to determine what cable interfaces that your device has. As technology changes and adapts, new, faster cables have emerged to fill the void. A typical laptop may have multiple ports similar to below while some Chromebooks only have USB-C and an Auxiliary (AUX) port.
Most devices, including laptops, Chromebooks, and desktops, primarily use USB-A or USB-C connectors to connect external hardware or transfer data. USB-A is what many think of simply as USB port. USB-C is a newer port that has the advantage of faster data transfer as well as smaller size so newer devices are switching or have both. Below is a picture of the USB-C and USB-A connector.
If you have a Chromebook with limited ports, you can request a USB hub to have additional ports and port types using the Service Catalog item.
